Word on the BLOCK: 15th October 2019

Hello everybody and welcome to the latest Blocknet newsletter! This newsletter is released twice per month to keep the community up-to-date on what is happening with Blocknet. You can view all previous newsletters here.

  • Migration to the new BTC v18 base chain is ongoing. Staking, governance, XBridge, and XRouter integration is complete. The new codebase will make the network more efficient, scalable, and secure and will also include on-chain governance (with proposal voting recorded directly on-chain), a single tier block reward, and allow support for enterprise customers as we head towards the XRouter 1.0 release.
  • XRouter calls are now working on the new BTC v18 codebase! Check out this early example (on testnet):bitcoin-cli xrGetBlockHash BLOCK 318401 {“reply”: “b8ed71fba5d00910e62b9cfb64cbc79140dc338aefd60aa61826339898ef47fe”, “uuid”: “6d6f44e3–2e12–4ff4-beb6-b558b4b2ea61”}
  • A proxy container has been created for enterprise XRouter clients. This will allow for integration into a web server environment that can support millions of requests per second. This is part of the effort in working towards the XRouter 1.0 release. The goal is to have the Blocknet client feeding an in-memory cache (e.g. Redis) so that XRouter calls hit the cache system instead of non-scalable blockchain RPC clients.
  • A simple web UI to query XRouter services has been set up. You can check it out here.
  • The world’s first decentralized lite multiwallet (LMW) is being developed by CloudChains Inc. It is powered by Blocknet’s XRouter protocol and uses the XRouter network to query on-chain data. The LMW has recently started private beta testing, which has received very positive feedback! With the LMW, you will be able to use Block DX without needing to have the blockchains synced for the assets you are trading. This will greatly lower the barrier for new users and adoption.
  • Localization is being implemented for Block DX. This will allow it to be translated into multiple languages and be used by traders around the world.
  • BlackJack XCloud API service is live and ready to be built upon! Play for fun in the CLI/Debug console. Rounds expire after 30 minutes of no action and is currently limited to 1000 concurrent rounds. Who’s going to build the first app powered by XRouter to bet on?
  • Check out this video of Arlyn Culwick speaking about Blocknet and the Internchain at Eth Berlin here.

  • We are happy to announce BLOCK has been listed on the Midas Masternode platform.Blocknet ranks in the 2nd position overall:
  • There will be a Blocknet AMA on October 21st. A Reddit thread has been created so you can post questions prior to the event and upvote other questions you would like to see answered.
  • The Blocknet crew continue to shout about Blocknet from the social media rooftops! Be sure to follow the various Blocknet associated Twitter accounts so you can retweet, like and share: Blocknet, Block DX, XCloud, XRouter. • A new article on what a decentralized Infura might look is in the final editing stages. This will be published at the appropriate time to tie in with other events.
  • A summary article on what makes Block DX different is also being worked on and is in the final editing stages.
  • Another article has been commissioned for a crypto related site that will be published in due course.
  • A new BLOCK DX trading video is being worked on and will be released soon.
  • A regular rotation of social media posts is being planned to keep our social media busy and consistent.
  • @lucien has been working on developing an awesome interactive service explorer that allows you to search service nodes, services, and view service details (fees, usage, etc). He recently added the ability to test out the calls as can be below. If anybody has requests for additional features or would like to learn more about the service explorer, leave a comment in the #service-explorer channel on Discord or check out the Github repo.

Many thanks for reading. We hope that you are as excited as us with what the future holds for Blocknet. A decentralization project fundamentally requires an engaged community, and so if you would like to help with anything, have something to add, use your professional skills or have a problem, we want to know about it.

Please also be aware that a community project is run by a diverse group of people with varying time-constraints (in a number of time-zones) and personal lives, so remember to be kind and patient!

If you want to be the first see these updates, you can receive the newsletters directly to your email by subscribing here. Our next update is due on October 30th. Until then we look forward to hearing from you!
